Your Heavenly Father Is Accessible
The Kennedy administration was one of the few times small children were living in the White House. Little John-John had the ability to run across the oval office and climb on the lap of the most powerful man in the world. Influential cabinet members had to wait to continue their discussions as the President’s son exchanged hugs and kisses.
The President loved his children and delighted to include them in his day even while attending to matters that concerned the future and safety of the entire world. The contrast was striking, the most powerful man in the world and the little boy who could stroll past staff members and secret service to run into his father’s arms.
Can you imagine someone objecting, now wait a minute, don’t you know who that man is he’s the president of the United State. You can’t just come in here anytime you want and sit on the President’s lap, who do you think you are? John John would have looked right at his challenger and with a surprised look and then with a grin of total confidence he would’ve said, “He’s my daddy!” He knew who was father and he knew who he was.
You can say the same thing about your heavenly father.
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5:14
He understands and sees your pain.
“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. Psalm 56:8
He pursues you!
In The Last of the Mohicans, Nathaniel, raised by the Mohican Indians is in love with Cora, the daughter of a proud British Colonel. In one of the final scenes Cora, Nathaniel and others are trapped behind a waterfall with a rival Indian tribe closing in. With no way of escape just before Nathaniel jumps into the massive waterfall he passionately tells Cora, “Just stay alive no matter what, do whatever you have to, no matter where, no matter how long, no matter how far I will find you.”
In the climax he relentlessly pursued her and rescued her. God is saying the same thing to you and me. He will not give up on you! He will pursue you.
When you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ God says that you are his child and are in his family.
Penelope Duckworth, a chaplain from Stanford tells the story about a woman she met on a plane who adopted a Jewish daughter. She explained that when Hitler had annexed Poland, the Nazis came to her village to round up the Jews she had been shopping near the train station where the German soldiers were loading Jews into rail cars. Those helpless victims were destined to die in a concentration camp.
She saw a soldier pushing a Jewish woman towards the station and noticed she had a little girl toddling behind her asking, “Is she your daughter?” The terrified mother looked straight into the woman’s eyes who then was standing nearby and said, “No, that child is that woman’s.” From that moment the woman took the young Jewish girl in as are own daughter. By the incredible grace of God He chose you and me as his kids with no merit of our own. Rom.8:15-16;John 1:12
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families. Psalm 68: 5-6 In Christ we have the same Father and are in the same family.
Your heavenly father says that you will live with him forever John 14:2-3
After a young girl’s mother had died her father was her constant and affectionate companion. She was born blind and had never seen her father. Years later a new type of surgery promised to restore her vision. After the operation lying in a darkened room with bandages over her eyes one thought occupied her mind. Soon I shall see the one I love, my father.
When several days had passed the bandages were finally removed and trembling with excitement she closed and opened her eyes to convince herself she was not dreaming. As the one she loved took her into his arms she said, “Daddy you’re far more handsome than I ever thought, I love you daddy.”
One day you will see clearly the one who truly loves you. One day you will finally see him face to face. And in the last analysis it will not be so much how much you know about your divine dad it will be in knowing and experiencing that he loves you. You are graven into palms of his hands. You’re never out of his mind and heart. You are the apple of his eye. There’s no moment that you’re out of His care! His eyes are constantly on you.
