Becoming Beautiful

beautyRegarding not knowing what’s on the menu from the Search for Significance blog consider that…

What makes you really attractive is when you know and choose God’s ways.
The most attractive people I know are ‘not’ the ones with the perfect bodies, bigger houses and nicer cars, but the ones that deeply understand God’s love for them.

When God has been doing a real makeover in someone’s life they become beautiful, not the kind of beautiful seen in Cosmopolitan, but the kind of beautiful the apostle Peter spoke about. Note: While this was written for women it certain has application for men.

When they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1 Peter 3:2-4

Peter goes on to talk about becoming beautiful for the right reasons.
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;  and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;  and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 2 Peter 1:5-7

One of the surgeons from YWAM’s Mercy Ships was asked in a ‘60 Minutes’ interview, “How do you overcome the constant horribly disfigured faces you do surgery for when most would turn away?” The response left the interviewer speechless, “There is so much beauty in these faces, don’t you see? It is our privilege to serve these beautiful people.”

God sees you as His work of art in progress. If God had a refrigerator your picture would be on it. He’s wild about you!

Warning! The possible side effects of God’s real makeover are:
You may experience a deep sense of joy and overwhelming sensation of God’s love; you may even love others more. Some experience greater contentment and a new sense of their life purpose; you may also experience more meaningful relationships. Some, but not all develop a habit of being more kind, gentle, trustworthy, patient, self- controlled and loving.

If you are willing to risk the side effects of God’s makeover maybe your prayer could be something like this:
God, I’ve always wanted to look better than I do…I’ve tried everything, I’ve chased empty pursuits that has left me no better in the end. Now, I want to become a better person for you! If I don’t impress others that’s okay with me because I want to impress you because I know that you really do love me and you will never leave me.

There is nothing I could want, ask for or even need now or in the future you don’t already know about and provide. I thank you Lord for your indescribable everlasting love for me and giving me the makeover that I really need. Amen
