Yes, it’s true that God has a purpose for your life that is far greater than your pain. Don’t allow your struggles to keep you from experiencing God’s best for you. In recent blogs we’ve explored how to know God’s direction and calling.
In our last blog we looked at how we can easily lose our focus and the reasons why we find it difficult to experience God’s purpose for our lives. Maybe you resonate with these other reasons?
We don’t have a sense of belonging in God’s family
Former NBA player Alonzo Mourning idolized Magic Johnson as one of the best players ever to play in the NBA. In his first year Alonzo was a player on the All Star Game. He was awestruck when he met his teammate Magic for the first time, “Hey, Magic it’s you, I can’t believe it, wow…” Magic’s response, “I know man, but you’re on the team now, so let’s play.”
If you’re a Christ follower you’re in the family of God now. So, get connected or re-connected with your family, get engaged, get in the game! Maybe like me, you’ll discover that the family of God can be so much closer than our earthly families ever were.
We haven’t experienced God’s indescribable love for us
Maybe you didn’t experience love at home as child growing up with little or no affirmation or acceptance. Or maybe the bar of expectation was unachievable or there was no expectation at all. When our past is like this or its’ our present tense it becomes harder to see the beauty all around us including God’s love for us.
Now glory is to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes. Ephesian 3:20
What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love him. I Corinthians 2:9
We think we don’t need Him
Are there times when we think we are so self-sufficient that we don’t need God? When we do we kid ourselves. Inevitably, we will need God’s intervention in our lives, but until we recognize that we are truly desperate there is really no need for God’s intervention. When we admit we can’t do everything by ourselves and that we really do need God we recognize that God can and does use us for His purposes.
You have something to give
Have you have you ever felt that you don’t have what others have or wished you did? That you’re not good enough so ‘what’s the use?’ Don’t let your past failings or current ruts tell you can’t be used by God. At the end of the day, it’s not about what you don’t have, but what you do have that matters. You have something to give. God is not surprised at what you haven’t done or your failings, but He is saddened if you don’t believe what He has said about you.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10
Regardless of the reasons why we don’t experience God’s best for us, God’s desire for you to know His will never changes and neither does His love. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
